Deens design


Tijdens de cursus meubelontwerpen heb ik de meubels van Deense ontwerpers uit de jaren 60 leren kennen.

De meubels die ze maakten waren degelijk, straalden vakmanschap uit en hadden een minimalistische vormgeving.

De meeste van deze meubels kunnen zo in diverse soorten interieurs van deze tijd worden geschoven zonder dat ze opvallen als vintage of ouderwetse meubels en dat terwijl de meeste al 50 of 60 jaar oud zijn.

De ontwerpen zijn een inspiratie bron voor de stijl die ik wil gaan voeren, in mijn volgende blog laat ik zien wat mij nog meer inspireert.

Cursus meubelontwerpen


De cursus werd op het HMC in Amsterdam gegeven door Brechje Vermaat, zij is ook meubelmaker/ontwerper en kan dus vanuit de praktijk voorbeelden geven, vindt ik altijd erg prettig. Ze heeft industrieel ontwerpen gestudeerd en heeft daarna ook het HMC doorlopen. Dus praktische en theoretische kennis in één persoon.

De groep was zeer divers en dan blijkt ook dat er echt grote verschillen zijn in stijl en smaak. Ik weet ook wel dat smaken verschillen, maar had van sommige stijlen het idee dat iedereen het mooi zou vinden maar dat blijkt niet het geval.

We hebben 10 zaterdagen uitleg gehad over verschillende onderdelen bijvoorbeeld:

• brainstormtechnieken
• verhoudingen
• sfeerbeelden maken
• ontwerpgeschiedenis
• visie omschrijven
• ergonomie en constructie
• detaillering, materialisatie en productie
• presentaties maken

De cursus leert je ontwerptechnieken en je leert een eigen visie te ontwikkelen, op die manier kun je je in de toekomst onderscheiden van je collega meubelmakers. Maak niet wat de massa wil want daar zijn al heel veel bedrijven voor, maak wat je mooi vindt en zorg dat iedereen die dat ook mooi vindt jou ontdekt.

Meubel maken


Na het afronden van de opleiding meubelmaken viel ik in klein zwart gaatje. Hoe nu verder. Wie worden mijn klanten, wat ga ik maken? Je leert op de opleiding niet om met plaatmateriaal een meubel te maken en dat is toch een groot deel van de markt. Kun je je brood verdienen met het maken van alleen massief houten meubels, horen meubels van plaatmateriaal erbij?? En moet je dan ook alle machines aanschaffen die daar voor nodig zijn. Veel vragen en weinig antwoorden.

Na de opleiding krijg je mogelijkheid om introducties te volgen voor cursussen die aansluiten op meubelmaken, ik had het idee dat meubels restaureren misschien een oplossing kon zijn. Zoals in de serie van Salvage hunters op discovery, meubel kopen, beetje opknappen en weer iemand blij mee maken. Maar bij de presentatie bleek het voornamelijk over fineren, beendermeel, kleurstoffen en meubels van meer als 100 jaar oud te gaan, en dat vindt ik niet interessant.

Direct na deze presentatie was er nog een over meubelontwerpen. Ik had het idee dat het over het gebruik van tekenprogramma’s en tekeningen maken zou gaan maar dat bleek niet het geval.

De cursus leert je creativiteits technieken, verhoudingen in een ontwerp en design geschiedenis.

Na een aantal weken kreeg ik een gevoel welke kant ik op wil met mijn bedrijf en welk type klant ik daar mee aan kan trekken. In mijn volgende blog lees je wat er in de cursus behandeld is .

Meubelmaker


Vandaag schrijf ik mijn eerste blog. Het verhaal hoe ik meubelmaker ben geworden.
Ik ben ooit begonnen als potplantenkweker, ik heb daar ook een opleiding voor gevolgd.
10 jaar heb ik dit volgehouden en toen begon ik te twijfelen. Wil ik dit tot mijn pensioen doen ?
En dan komt de vraag: “wat wil je dan ?” Ik heb gesolliciteerd en ben aangenomen bij een bedrijf wat logistieke automatisering verkocht aan tuinbouwbedrijven. De functie was areamanager of in gewoon Nederlands verkoopadviseur. Ik heb er een hoop geleerd, ben zelfs aan een opleiding bedrijfskunde begonnen maar het bracht mij niet het geluk waar ik op hoopte.Ik heb ontslag genomen om consultant te worden maar daar stak de crisis een stokje voor, na 1,5 jaar hovenieren ben ik vanDaalen houtbouw begonnen. Ik kwam erachter dat de houten veranda’s in opkomst waren. Ik deed wel eens wat met hout maar had nog nooit een constructie gebouwd.
Ik heb veel op internet gezocht bij de houtbouwers in het oosten van het land, boeken gekocht van Engelse “Frame builders” en ben cursussen gaan volgen om zo kennis op te doen van houtbouw.
In de loop der jaren heb ik van alles mogen bouwen en werden de veranda’s complete bijgebouwen.Drie jaar geleden ontdekte ik het hout en meubileringscollege in Rotterdam. Op een open dag heb ik me direct ingeschrevenen en heb ik er een twee jarige opleiding tot meubelmaker gevolgd, iedere vrijdag, twee jaar lang. Het begint simpel met het slijpen van beitels en het gebruik van handgereedschap, maar na een aantal maanden ben je een echt meubel aan het maken met fineer en zwaluwstaartverbindingen.

En nu dan in het begin van 2020 start ik René van Daalen, houten meubels. In de volgende blog kun je lezen hoe ik mijn stijl ontwikkeld heb.
